“Bloomberg”: Libya is continuing to prosecute the two Russians accused of spying, despite Russian pressure.

The US “Bloomberg” website quoted a Libyan official as saying that Libya is proceeding with the trial of two Russians detained for spying and trying to interfere in the upcoming elections in the country.

The official, who preferred not to be named, added to Bloomberg that the reconciliation government will continue to try the Russian defendants despite Russian pressure to release them.

The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, said last Wednesday, during his meeting with Foreign Minister Mohamed Siala, that the continued detention of the Russians in Tripoli constitutes the biggest obstacle to developing cooperation between the two countries.

It is worth noting that, in May 2019, the Libyan authorities arrested the Russians, “Maxim Shogali” and “Samer Suivan” in Tripoli, on charges of spying and attempting to influence the upcoming elections in the country.
