Reuters reported on Saturday that the US military plans to deploy a brigade in Tunisia, in a response believed to be direct to the Russian presence in Libya.
The agency quoted the commander of US forces in Africa, “AFRICOM”, as he told the Tunisian defense minister in a meeting that brought the two countries’ growing concern about Russia’s continued fueling of the conflict in Libya, threatening regional security in North Africa.
The site added that the US military is studying with Tunisia new ways to address common security concerns, including the use of an American brigade for security assistance, noting that Russian military personnel had delivered 14 “MiG-29” and “Sukhoi-24” aircraft to the Aljufra airbase.
It is worth noting that the US command “AFRICOM” and the US State Department and the United Nations in its reports accused Russia of deploying aircraft in Libya and supporting the militias of Haftar with the “Wagner” mercenaries.
