The army’s advance south of Tripoli … keeps civilians out of the threat of Haftar’s missiles.

Since Haftar started his aggression against Tripoli more than a year ago, the random shelling on Tripoli and its surroundings did not stop, leaving a large number of dead and wounded, and material losses, and a devastation to the capital’s infrastructure. However, the progress made by the military forces recently contributed greatly to protecting civilians.

Before the army advanced in axes south of Tripoli and its control of important strategic places – the indiscriminate shelling of Haftar militias on the neighborhoods and residential areas of the capital has killed more than 334 civilians since the start of the Haftar aggression on Tripoli, according to multiple UN reports.

The military situation has changed

The military change on the ground began since the Libyan army launched the “Peace Storm” operation, which was in response to the indiscriminate targeting of civilians, during which the army managed to push back Haftar militias to their previous lines.

The “Peace Storm” recovered the cities of the West Coast, Sabrata, Sorman, Al-Ajilat, and Zultan, in addition to Jmail and Rikdalin, arriving at the base of Alwittia , which the army stormed and extended its power over in the middle of Ramadan, after it was a threat to civilians in the western region.

After Alwittia , the army forces entered the cities of Badr, Tigi and Alasaba, culminating in the victory march by controlling more than 5 camps south of Tripoli, which spread relief to civilians and kept them out of the danger of direct and indiscriminate targeting of the militias.

Tekbali camp

In May this year, the Libyan army forces took control of Tekbali camp, which is approximately 10 kilometers from the center of the capital, and Haftar militias took control of it during its advance in the Salah Addin area, south of Tripoli last December. The camp represents an important focal point in the curve of Salah Addin road , it was used to bomb the densely populated Alhadba area.

 Hamza camp

In the midst of the Libyan army’s progress in the south of the capital, Tripoli, it regained the Hamza camp, 15 km from the center of the capital, and annexed it to a series of camps that it seized south of the capital.

Haftar militias used this camp to target Abu Sleem, the most densely populated area in the capital, which left a number of civilians dead and wounded, including patients who were receiving treatment in the Al Khadra Hospital.

Yarmouk camp

It is the main and most strategic military headquarters in the south of Tripoli, and it is located in Khallet Al Furjan, more than 15 km south of Tripoli, and was controlled by Haftar militias last November.

“Red rest house”

To complement its progress, the army forces stormed what is known as the “red rest house” in the Ain Zara region, from which the Haftar militia took an important military position to bomb civilians in the areas of Ain Zara, Alhadba, Almashrou, and others.

With the control of these camps and important sites, the fire line is miles away from the civilians in the capital, and many of them insure themselves against direct targeting and indiscriminate shells fired by Haftar militias on the capital, Tripoli, while awaiting the removal of the danger from the capital and the surrounding areas completely.
