The Libyan Supreme Commander in Chief, Fayez Asarraj, said Thursday that the “Peace Storm” operation launched by the army forces came in response to the aggressor terrorist militias, along with mercenaries, targeting civilians.
Asarraj added, in a statement, that the programmed terrorist bombing of residential neighborhoods in Tripoli did not stop during the truce and caused civilian casualties, including children and women, which is a disregard for the Security Council resolution and underestimating the outcomes of the Berlin Conference and the lives and security of Libyans.
Asarraj confirmed that the legitimate and civil government of National Accord respects its obligations towards the international community, but is committed before that to its people and must protect them within the framework of the right of legitimate self-defense and within the limits of international law.
It is worth noting that the army forces stormed the Alwityah airbase on Wednesday and arrested a number of leaders of the militia forces of Haftar, in response to its continuous bombardment of the neighborhoods of the capital, Tripoli.
