Italy’s Deputy Foreign Minister: We assured our negotiators that the main track to peace in Libya is the political track.

Italian Deputy Foreign Minister Marina Sereni said on Friday that Italy assured all negotiators that the main track remains a political track under the supervision of the United Nations in order to creat a balance in conflicting interests and create good conditions for peace and stability in Libya.

Sereni pointed out, according to the Italian “Aki” agency, that the contacts made by Foreign Minister “Luigi de Mayo” and Prime Minister “Giuseppe Conte” in recent days with the leaders of the countries concerned with Libyan affairs confirm the urgent need for the commitment of the entire international community to reach a ceasefire.

Sereni warned that any new military escalation in Libya in particular in the vicinity of Tripoli will make civilians the first victims.

Sereni added that the situation in Libya is very worrying, noting that for her country, it is the main international issue. It is worth noting that the Italian Foreign Minister, “Luigi de Mayo” visited the capital,Tripoli, on December 17th, and confirmed his country’s stance on the difficulty of a military solution for the crisis in Libya.
