UN Security Council: There is no specific date for the Libyan elections yet.

The Ambassador of Norway and the President of the Security Council, Mona Juul, said that it is difficult to determine when the elections will be held in Libya, and the impression that we have by talking with UN officials on the ground is that there are moves towards holding the elections, according to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.

Juul added during a press conference, on the occasion of her country’s assumption of the presidency of the UN Security Council in New York for the current month, that she believes that the failure to hold the elections was not surprising; Because all the necessary elements for this were not available, noting that it continues to discuss this with the Libyan parties, and that there is no alternative to cooperation and conducting it.

“We had hoped that the elections in Libya would take place on schedule, but this did not happen on December 24, but we urge the Libyan parties to cooperate and agree on moving forward in a democratic way so that they can be held,” she said.

Juul explained that the interference and foreign presence of mercenaries and foreign fighters in Libya represents a problem and a challenge to finding a solution, adding that the council encouraged and demanded in every statement the exit of foreign forces, mercenaries and foreign fighters from Libya. This is the wish of the Libyans

It is worth noting that the UN Security Council stressed, during its meetings, the holding of presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya, indicating the possibility of imposing sanctions on those obstructing this path.
