UN: We demand the release of migrants and we will not allow the tragedy Tajoura shelter to be repeated

The United Nations has called for the release of 5,000 and 600 migrants from Libyan shelters and their evacuation to other countries, stressing that they will not allow another tragedy, such as the bombing of the immigrant shelter in Tajoura.

Deputy spokesman of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Farhan Haq, said on Friday, to ensure the protection of illegal migrants in Libya, or evacuation to other countries, adding that the protection of human lives should be a top priority.

Haq said the UNHCR and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) had appealed to the European Union and African Union to prevent another tragedy for migrants in Libya, noting that migrants wishing to return to their countries of origin should be able to do so.

He pointed out that the center of Tajoura shelter of migrants, was hit on July 3 to air bombard, killing more than 50 migrants, and injuring dozens more.
