US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Karen Sasahara confirmed Thursday that her country supports the holding of the Libyan elections on time, especially at this critical stage that requires peace in the country.
In a congressional session on Libya, Sasahara said that there are foreign parties that exacerbate the crisis in Libya and undermine its sovereignty, stressing that they are in contact with the international community to impose sanctions on any parties that undermine or obstruct the elections.
The US State Department official stressed the need for the withdrawal of the Russian “Wagner” forces and all foreign forces from Libya, noting that Washington is working with international partners to limit Russian expansion in it, indicating that the elections are important to form the new government that will contribute to the removal of mercenaries and limit this expansion and hold criminals of war accountable.
In a related context, “Sasahara” stated that all those involved in human rights violations in Libya, led by the perpetrators of mass graves in Tarhuna, should be prosecuted.
