Al-Zawiya Oil Refinery warns of an environmental disaster after 13 tanks were hit as a result of armed clashes.

Al-Zawiya Oil Refining Company announced the damage of 8 tanks for storing oil products and crude oil, as a result of armed clashes in the vicinity of the oil complex in the city.

The company added – in an official statement – on Tuesday, that five tanks for storing base oils and chemical additives were hit; As a result, large quantities of leakage from the tank No. (T9) for storing the base oil (SN150), and the damage of the electrical transformer feeding the main station.

The company stressed that inspections on all production units are still ongoing to determine the extent of the damage resulting from the clashes, warning of the occurrence of major industrial accidents that result in environmental disasters that may get out of control and cause disasters in the vicinity of the oil complex.

The company called on all parties to give voice to reason to ensure the security and stability of the region in general and to maintain the safety of citizens in the neighboring regions and users of the oil complex, according to the statement.
