Essayah: We Are Ready To Hold A Referendum On The Constitution When Support Is Provided

The head of the Supreme National Electoral Commission Emad Essayah, said that they are ready to conduct a referendum on the constitution during the current year if support was provided.

In a statement to Libya’s official channel, on Sunday, Essayah said that the referendum process is dependent on the funding by the Government of National Accord (GNA) of the process and security preparations in the Libyan cities.

Essayah said that the Commission is waiting for the receipt of amendments to some articles of the referendum law of the House of Representatives (HOR), adding that the government decided to study the provision of a budget to conduct the referendum and the entitlements of electoral operations expected this year.

A member of the Governing Council of the High Electoral Commission, Abdul Hakim Belkhair, told the leader last January that the provision of security and financial coverage are prerequisites for the start of the referendum process on the Constitution.
