Democratic Representative in the US Congress, Tom Malinowski, introduced two amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act of 2022, the first of which requires US President Joe Biden to review and impose sanctions on violators of the arms embargo to Libya. The website explained in its report that these amendments are only waiting for the approval of US President “Biden” “so that the relevant executive authorities work to stop, punish and marginalize Haftar, according to the website’s description, adding that many see Haftar as the “elephant in the room” that prevents Libya’s progress.
The website stated that these two amendments could help the Libyans in their struggle to break through the ongoing political stalemate in the country. The report pointed out the need for coordination between the US administration with the European Union to bloc property and suspend entry visas for those who commit war crimes and violate the Libyan arms embargo.
The report touched upon the CIA’s recruitment of Haftar after Libya lost its war with Chad in 1987, to end up as an American citizen.
