“Williams”: The Speaker of the House of Representatives briefed me on the mechanism for granting confidence to the new government.

The UN Adviser to Libya, Stephanie Williams, said on Wednesday that she had received an explanation from Parliament Speaker Aqila Saleh about the mechanism that the Council will follow to grant confidence to the new government.

Williams added, in a tweet to her Twitter Account, that Aqila briefed her, during their meeting in Al Qubba area, on the plan of action with the State Council on the basis of the 12th constitutional amendment, including the establishment of a 24-member joint expert committee to review the draft constitution of 2017.

Williams discussed with the speaker of the Parliament ways to ensure that the two Councils reach a consensual formula in the shortest possible time frame, to enable elections that respect the will of the 2.8 million Libyan citizens registered to vote.

“Williams” explained that she discussed with Aqila the guarantees of the joint committee to deliver the amendments to the draft constitution on time, and the ongoing efforts between the House of Representatives and the Presidential Council on national reconciliation, including the return of internally displaced people.

“Williams”, during her meeting with “Aqila”, praised the consensus between the House of Representatives and the State Council.
