Guterres calls on the Security Council for unity and clarity on Libya.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on the Security Council for “unity and clarity” regarding the extension of the mandate of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya.

The Secretary-General’s spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, said that the Secretary-General is implementing the mandate granted to him by the Security Council, calling for unity and clarity that helps him implement this mandate.

Dujarric added that Guterres is currently working with members of the Security Council to achieve the interest of the United Nations mission in Libya, as well as the interests of the Libyans, expressing his gratitude for the efforts made by his Special Adviser, Stephanie Williams, in a very difficult environment.

It is worth noting that a dispute between the United States and Russia in the UN Security Council hampered the issuance of a decision to extend the mandate of the United Nations mission in Libya, after Britain proposed a new project to extend the mandate of the mission, which ends on January 31.

“Williams” renews its call for drawing a clear path for the elections within the timetable of the road map.
