Williams: There are different opinions in Libya, and we understand the complications associated with all options.

The UN Adviser in Libya, Stephanie Williams, said that there is no single dominant opinion in Libya, there are different opinions, and that we are certainly involved in the UN in the political process, and that we understand the complexities associated with each particular option.

Williams explained, in an interview reported by the Turkish “Anatolia” agency, that Turkey has contributed to the United Nations’ efforts to bring the Libyans together, stressing that the United Nations is the “most neutral actor” in this process to bring together the very interested and different parties.

She added that there are those who say that there is a need for a constitutional basis for the continuation of the elections, and there are those who want to put the draft constitution to a referendum, and there are those who want to subject the list of presidential candidates, and there are those who want parliamentary elections, and we understand the complications associated with each particular option.

Williams indicated that Libya needs permanent institutions, and it needs democratically elected institutions, that can provide the necessary security for its residents, secure the country’s borders and serve the people, and the best way for this to happen in the end is if the Libyans can go to the polls, explaining that the road map is a valid timetable that extends to June of this year, according to the agency.

Williams called on the High Council of State and Parliament to assume their responsibilities, explaining that the solution is not to form another transitional government, saying that Libya has witnessed five transitional periods, and I do not think that the solution is necessarily another transitional government.
