“The National Council for Human Rights”: The work of the UNHCR in Libya is illegal.

The National Council for Public Liberties and Human Rights in Libya considered the work of the UNHCR illegal, for Libya’s failure to sign the 1951 Geneva Convention, accusing it of exploiting the weakness of state institutions and the challenges they face.

The council added, in a statement published on its official page on Saturday, that the signing of the aforementioned agreement will cause an imbalance in the demographic structure and will make the Libyans a minority in their homeland, which creates some problems related to population change.

In its statement, the Council referred to the issue of the growing pressure from external parties on Libya, especially from the European Union, and the security, economic and social problems that the issue of migration entails, calling on the government to prepare a letter that includes a unified vision in order to address the issue of migration and asylum in Libya.

It is worth noting that the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, on Friday, evacuated 177 illegal immigrants from Libya to their country, Niger.
