On Thursday, the UN Adviser on Libya, Stephanie Williams, renewed her call to provide the appropriate conditions to protect the progress of the electoral process on solid foundations, emphasizing the principle of equal opportunity, so that no candidate enjoys unfair advantages.
In a tweet posted on her Twitter account, Williams affirmed the firm commitment of the United Nations to support the relevant national authorities in responding to the legitimate and existing aspirations of the 2.8 million male and female voters across Libya.
It is worth noting that the governments of five Western countries, France, Germany, Italy, Britain and the United States, affirmed, in a statement issued by them, that candidates who occupy positions in public institutions should not work because of a public interest conflict.
