UN report: Maltese companies involved in smuggling Libyan fuel.

The Maltese newspaper, The Times of Malta, said that a United Nations panel of experts confirmed the involvement of Maltese companies in smuggling Libyan fuel, in violation of UN sanctions.

The newspaper added, on Friday, that the head of the Malta Sanctions Monitoring Board, Neville Aquilina, submitted these reports to the court as part of measures linked to an extensive police investigation into international fuel smuggling.

Neville Aquilina explained that the Security Council issued orders to member states to impose sanctions on those involved, assigning a committee of eight experts to oversee their implementation, noting that the sanctions targeted people from Libya, Malta and Egypt involved in smuggling petroleum products from Libya to Europe.
