A confidential report by United Nations experts stated that the presence of Chadian, Sudanese, Syrian and Russian mercenaries in Libya still poses a major threat in the region, despite the decline in the supply of arms to the country compared to last year.
According to Al-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper on Wednesday, the report prepared by the experts confirms that there is no evidence of large-scale withdrawals so far of these mercenaries, warning that the weapons supplied to Libya last year may be sufficient to cover any conflict or war in the future.
In their report, the experts expressed their dissatisfaction with some parties to the conflict who still retain foreign fighters in their forces, especially nationals from Chad, Sudan and Syria, as well as fighters from Russian private military companies.
The report of the UN experts added that, in conjunction with the decrease in the supply of weapons to Libya, the number of flights operated by “Cham Wings” to airports in eastern Libya increased this year by 71%, as the report suggested that these flights could be to bring and replace mercenaries from Syria to Libya.
