The United Nations: Guterres accepted the resignation of Kubis, and we are working to find a suitable replacement.

The United Nations spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, confirmed the resignation of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General to Libya, Jan Kubis, saying that it “was not completely surprising.”

Dujarric added, according to a statement, that the Secretary-General is working on a suitable replacement, and that the United Nations is fully aware of the election schedule and is working as quickly as possible to ensure its continued presence to resolve the Libyan crisis, according to Reuters.

In a statement to Reuters, Dujarric indicated that United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had accepted Kubis’s resignation “with regret,” noting that the reason for the resignation is not yet clear.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations appointed Jan Kubis as his special envoy to Libya on January 18, to take up his post last February.

Reuters quoted diplomats as saying that the United Nations had unofficially proposed the British diplomat, Nicholas Kay, as an replacement for Kubis.
