The Director of the Commercial Department at the Ministry of Economy, Mustafa Qdara, said in a statement to Arraed on Saturday that the decision to set commodity prices, which was issued by the Ministry of Economy, only took effect for a week, and that the Prime Minister decided to cancel fees for imported food commodities after a request from them and then withdrew the decision to set commodity prices.
Qdara added that the market now operates according to Law No. 23 of 2010 on the principle of competition “supply and demand”, stressing that the Ministry of Economy is not responsible for the current price hike, and that the market is now considered a “free” market that sells according to supply and demand, and according to competition.
Qdara called on the Prime Minister to subsidize basic commodities that have a direct relationship with the citizen, reactivate the Price Stabilization Fund, and establish a general grain authority, to form a strategic grain stockpile.
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Economy and Trade issued a decision on November 3rd approving the selling prices of 13 basic commodities for the consumer.
