The Italian “Nova” agency, quoting government sources, revealed that the Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbaiba, threatened, in a letter to the head of the High Electoral Commission, Imad al-Sayeh, to challenge the presidential election law.
The source told the agency that Dbaiba had received a letter signed by 57 deputies calling for the amendment of Article 12 of the electoral law that Parliament Speaker Aqila Saleh adopted last September.
For his part, the head of the Electoral Commission, Imad al-Sayeh, denied, in a press statement, what was published by the agency about Dbaiba hinting at an appeal against the law.
It is worth noting that Article 12 of the electoral law stipulates that the candidate relinquish any position he holds for a period of 3 months before the date of the presidential elections scheduled for December 24.
