Despite the clarity of the points of the road map that produced the Presidential Council and its government, which stipulates that the interim government is prevented from concluding or canceling any agreements with any country, because it is an interim government that undertakes the running of business and preparation for the elections scheduled for next December, despite all that, the national unity government has not stopped concluding Agreements after agreements that commit the Libyan state to billions, the latest of which is the one that was signed in Egypt, in which the value of the signed agreements amounted to nearly $30 billion, according to what was published in a number of Egyptian media outlets.
It’s not its Right
Writer and blogger Abdulaziz Al-Ghanai in a statement to Arraed believes that the provisions of the road map have been clarified beyond interpretation to prevent the interim government from concluding agreements, pointing out that if these contracts were necessary for this temporary stage, it would not be acceptable for their value to be of such huge size. Which is equal to 33 billion dollars, according to the statement of the Minister of Economy in the government.
Al-Ghanai added that the Egyptian role is important in the Libyan file, but time will not allow the government to follow up on these contracts due to its short stay, and from here it will be a burden on the shoulders of the next government with an unknown future about revenues, demand for oil, and the stability of Libyan production.
Appease to Survive
On the other hand, writer and political analyst Al-Senussi Ismail said in a statement to Arraed that the government is seeking to conclude these agreements to appease many international parties for the purpose of staying more and continuing, but by doing so it may implicate the Libyan state in long-term contracts and huge sums, while the priorty for it to focus on basic services needed by the citizens, such as electricity, liquidity and the corona file.
Ismail added that, on the other hand, the government should have focused on many of the files entrusted to it, such as preparing for the elections and creating security and logistical conditions for them, as well as the file of national reconciliation, and the file of releasing mercenaries and foreign forces.
For Personal Interests
In the same context, writer and political analyst Ali Abu Zaid, in a statement to Arraed, indicated that there are indications that the Dbaiba government’s signing of agreements and memoranda is to serve the political interests of the prime minister himself and not for the national interest, indicating that this government’s signing of agreements and memoranda of understanding is contrary to the Geneva Agreement, which It prevents the executive authority from concluding new agreements or reconsidering previous agreements.
Abu Zaid added that the temporary nature of the government and its specific tasks with regard to elections and handling of emergency files with its short lifespan, confirms the illegality of concluding agreements related to development with huge amounts and long deadlines without transparency and clarity of these agreements.
