On Friday, the Supreme Council of State considered the joint statement between European countries and the United States “in which it was stated that the time is not appropriate to change positions related to the elections as an interference in the internal affairs of Libya.”
The council said – in a statement – that the violation of Libyan sovereignty does not depend only on the presence of foreign mercenaries, but even the attempt to impose foreign political dictates that are categorically rejected is a violation.
The Council stressed the necessity of holding the elections on time on solid constitutional foundations, stressing the independence of the Libyan decision, which is something that cannot be compromised.
The council called on the foreign ambassadors not to go beyond their duties set by diplomatic norms, to observe the laws of the host country and abide by them and not to jump over them under any pretext.
It is worth noting that the embassies of Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, France and the United States in Libya said that now is not the right time to make any changes that would disrupt the relevant bodies, which have an important role in preparing for the elections
