The commander of Operation Irini will travel to Libya to discuss resuming Coast Guard training.

Italian press sources said on Wednesday that the commander of the naval “Irini” operation, “Fabio Agostini,” which monitors the implementation of the UN Security Council resolution banning arms supplies to Libya, will soon head to Tripoli. To examine the possibility of returning to the training of the Libyan Coast Guard forces.

The sources added to the “Aki” news agency that the commander of Operation Irini will discuss ways to train Libyan Coast Guard elements with the new Libyan authorities, which have been suspended for a year, pointing out that their resumption is important to them within the naval operation operating in the central Mediterranean, according to the agency.

It is worth noting that the European Union decided, last March, to extend the mission of the Irini Naval Operation for an additional two years.
