The African Report website, on Wednesday, said that flights on the Damascus-Benghazi line have witnessed an increase in recent months. Which indicates the transfer of more mercenaries to Libya.
The site added that from the beginning of April, the Syrian Cham Wings Company had made no less than nine round-trip flights between Damascus and Benghazi, the last of which was on April 19, according to Arabi 21 website.
“The African” explained that the relations between Damascus, Latakia and Benghazi began in 2018, and resulted in bringing in Syrian mercenaries, pointing out that there are about 2,000 Syrian mercenaries fighting with the commander of the aggression, Khalifa Haftar.
In the same context, Syrian journalist and analyst Asaad Hanna said in an interview with the website that the many flights between the two countries, in recent times, could also work as a drug smuggling network, because Syria has become the largest drug center, which is a way to finance military operations, according to him.
The site quoted an expert on Libyan affairs that “the recruitment of these mercenaries is led by Russia, and is partly funded by money paid by Haftar’s ally the UAE.”
It is worth noting that the private airline, “Cham Wings”, is subject to sanctions from the United States and the European Union, and is owned by businessman Rami Makhlouf, a cousin of the internationally isolated President Bashar al-Assad.
