An American institute calls for Biden to oblige the UAE to stop financing the “Wagner” and the Russian expansion in Libya.

The Washington Institute for Near East Policy said that the United States of America must be ready to take the initiative and interfere in the Libyan file. In the event that progress stalled in strengthening political dialogue, obstructing the holding of elections on time, and the worrying Russian military transcending.

The institute added – according to its report – that the phone call made by US Secretary of State, “Anthony Blinken” with the head of the national unity government, Abdul Hamid Dbaiba, showed the return of the United States efforts to address the issue of the “protracted and violent transitional process” in Libya, describing it as a welcome change from The path followed by former US President “Donald Trump”, according to Al Arabi 21 website .

The report stated that the previous call by “Trump” to Haftar contributed to the “outbreak of civil war”, left hundreds of people dead, brought thousands of fighters from abroad, and deepened the polarization in the country.

The institute emphasized that the most worrying issue for the “NATO” alliance is the presence of an estimated 2,000 Russian “Wagner” mercenaries with fortifications and advanced combat aircraft, threatening the southern wing of the alliance, calling on the American military leadership in Africa to resume revealing the activities of “Wagner” in Libya.

The institute indicated that NATO defense planners must prepare for emergency situations related to a long-term Russian military presence in Libya.

The report called on the United States to make clear to the UAE the obligation to stop funding the presence of “Wagner” and other mercenaries in Libya, as well as their ongoing violations of the arms embargo. Together with the European allies of the United States, Washington should pressure Turkey and limit its military activities to legitimate training, such as its actions of lifesaving and disposal of explosive ordnance.
