The head of the Turkish-Libyan Business Council, Mortada Kornfil, said Tuesday that the closure of the shipping lane to the Suez Canal for 6 days showed the importance of Libya from the logistical point of view.
“Kornfil” – according to what was reported by Anadolu Agency – stressed the importance of Libya in terms of Turkish exports and trade to the African continent.
Last February, Turkey expressed its intention to establish a logistical center in Libya. In order to be able to enter deep into the African continent via land routes, which constitutes an alternative to the interior of Africa, according to “Kornfil”.
“Kornfil” stated that the center will reduce the time for goods arriving inside Africa, from 45 days through the Suez Canal, to between 10-15 days, which means a significant reduction in transportation costs.
It is worth noting that the ship called “Evergreen” closed the shipping lane of the Suez Canal on March 23, causing the suspension of navigation in it, until it was cleared on the 29th of the same month, after seven days of strenuous efforts to float it.
