Norland: The election of a government on December 24th is the most effective tool for forcing mercenaries to leave.

The US ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, said that the most effective tool to achieve the departure of foreign mercenaries is a democratically elected Libyan government that enjoys full powers with a mandate to restore the country’s sovereignty, indicating that this government will be the result of the elections scheduled for next December 24.

Norland confirmed – during an interview with Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper – that there are strong factors calling for elections on December 24, including the road map emanating from the Political Dialogue Forum, and the demands of the Libyan people, expressing confidence that the Libyans are ready to agree on a constitutional basis to hold elections on time, and that the interim government will create the necessary environment conducive to holding these elections.

In a related context, the American ambassador explained that the adoption by the US House of Representatives and Senate of the Stability Act in Libya will reaffirm the interest of Congress in supporting the holding of elections in Libya on December 24th.

It is worth noting that Norland “said last Wednesday, that continued commitment to the political process that will culminate in the elections on December 24, 2021 is an essential path, to improve the investment climate in Libya.
