The Security Council stresses the need for the mercenaries to leave and hold the elections on time.

The UN Security Council stressed the need for the exit of foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya, commitment to a complete ceasefire, unification of Libyan institutions and the protection of civilians.

The Council welcomed – in a statement – Friday, the granting of confidence to the new government, reminding the “authorities and actors” of the need to ensure the smooth handover of all competencies and duties to this government.

The Council called on the new government to prepare for the holding of “free and fair” presidential and parliamentary elections as scheduled from the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, which is December 24 of 2021.

It is worth noting that some military sources reported, on Friday, that the Russian mercenaries had returned to their places of residence in the city of Sirte, after they withdrew from it during the session of the parliament.
