çavuşoğlu: We started diplomatic contact with Egypt without conditions

On Friday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Çavuşolu announced the beginning of diplomatic contact with Egypt, without preconditions, in order to restore normal relations between the two countries.

Çavuşolu confirmed in a statement to Anadolu Agency that the restoration of relations with Egypt is taking place, but slowly, through discussions, drawing up a roadmap, and more steps in this direction.

Çavuşolu clarified that Turkey has contacts with Egypt, whether at the level of intelligence or the level of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, noting that it is not easy to move, as if nothing had happened in light of the interruption of relations for many years.

Ankara opposed the overthrow of the first elected Egyptian civilian president, Mohamed Morsi, in 2013, which led to the deterioration of relations between the two countries.

It is worth noting that Turkish Foreign Minister Çavuşolu announced last December that Turkey and Egypt are seeking to define a roadmap regarding their bilateral relations.
