The US State Department welcomes the granting of confidence to the new government and looks forward to holding the elections as scheduled.

On Thursday, the US State Department welcomed the House of Representatives granting confidence to the appointed Prime Minister, Abdulhamid Dbaiba, stressing the need for the government to ensure that elections are held on time, oversee the implementation of the ceasefire agreement, provide basic public services, and launch a national program for reconciliation and addressing the economic crisis.

In a statement, the State Department said that granting confidence is a distinctive sign of the implementation of the roadmap for the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum for a temporary, effective and unified government of national unity, expressing confidence that this new leadership will take the necessary steps to ensure free national elections on the 24th of December as an essential step to reach a political solution to end the decade-long conflict, according to the statement.

The Foreign Ministry called on all parties to maintain this “positive momentum” and support the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement, re-application of full respect for the arms embargo imposed by the United Nations and an end to foreign interference, including the immediate removal of all foreign forces and mercenaries.

It is worth noting that, during a session in Sirte, the House of Representatives granted confidence to the new government on Wednesday, with 132 votes out of 133 deputies who attended the session.
