The Parliament session in Sirte, to grant confidence to the new government, was suspended without any practical results, as the opinions of the deputies differed between those calling for the granting of confidence to the government only, and those calling for the inclusion of the political agreement in Tunis and Geneva in the constitutional declaration first before its approval, and others who see the need to postpone the session until the report of the UN team of experts is issued on the issue of bribes that affected members of the dialogue forum in mid-March.
First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Fawzi Al-Nuwairi suspended the session until eleven o’clock tomorrow morning, asking the designated Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbaiba to come to present his ministerial formation, and the Legislative Committee to submit a proposal to include the political agreement for the constitutional declaration.
Today’s session opened under the chairmanship of Parliament Speaker Agila Saleh and in the presence of his two deputies Fawzi Al-Nuwairi, Hamid Houma, and more than 132 deputies. During his opening speech to the deputies, Saleh stressed the need to vote to include the political agreement in the constitutional declaration; In order to consider granting confidence to the government.
For his part, MP Salem Qanan called for the need to work to include the political agreement in the constitutional declaration so that the government would not be the object of appeals and criticism, calling on members of the Council to decide on the draft constitution and to consult with the Amazigh component on this, to avoid any opposition to this project.
As for MP Ibrahim Zughaid, called for postponing the session of granting confidence until the date of the announcement of the report of the United Nations experts, which spoke about the existence of bribes offered by a candidate for the post of prime minister to one of the members of the Dialogue Forum in Tunis.
On the other hand, 42 members of the House of Representatives called for the postponement of the parliament session in Sirte, on Sunday. Because it is confined to discussing the granting of confidence to the proposed government without referring to the inclusion of Tunisia’s outputs in one package in the constitutional declaration, especially since the lack of inclusion of the outputs means that elections will not be held on December 24, 2021.
The members stressed, in their statement, the need to review the report of the expert committee, follow and refute any suspicions of bribery, for the integrity and transparency of the political process so that the national unity government does not fall under the threat of external or internal blackmail.
