Kubiš: political dialogue forum has a decisive and legitimate role in resolving the deadlock and division, and we call for rapid agreement on the constitutional basis necessary for holding elections.

The head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Jan Kubis, stressed on Monday the decisive and legitimate role of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum as a force that prevents division and stalemate “working for the unity and sovereignty of Libya.”

In a statement, Kubis called for speeding up the agreement on the constitutional base necessary to hold elections in December 2021, welcoming the ongoing efforts to bring together members of Parliament as soon as possible.

Kubis praised the efforts of the Joint Military Committee (5 + 5), calling for continued progress and further steps towards reopening the coastal road.

It is worth noting that the UN envoy to Libya, Jan Kubis, formally assumed his duties on February 8, succeeding the UN Acting Envoy Stephanie Williams.
