On Sunday, the Speaker of the Tobruk Parliament, Aqila Saleh, denounced the attempt to assassinate Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha in the Janzour area, west of Tripoli.
Saleh added that there will be no meeting in Sirte to vote on granting confidence to the government until after the prime minister presents his ministerial formation to the speaker of parliament, after that the speaker of parliament will determine the location of the parliament session.
Saleh clarified that the meetings in Ghadames and Sabratta by some parliamentarians were of no value. Because they are illegal and unconstitutional, according to Article 179 of Parliament’s regulation.
Aqila explained that according to what was reported by the 5 + 5 committee, the city of Sirte is safe, ready to receive the parliament session, and also to equip a headquarters for the work of the government, adding, “My dismissal or my resignation now will not help in these political conditions that the country is going through.”
“I asked the prime minister to have his cabinet ministers from all regions of Libya without excluding anyone, as well as support national reconciliation,” Aqila added. “My name has not been nominated as a minister in the new government, as I am still the elected speaker of parliament and the supreme commander of the army.”
