Al-Jwaili: Most of the functions in the next phase are for the government, including appointment of positions.

On Monday, the candidate for membership of the prospective Presidential Council, Osama al-Jwaili, said that the competencies of the new Presidential Council are very limited, but they are of priority, and appointment of jobs is the government’s prerogative according to the dialogue outcomes.

Al-Jwaili stressed, during his briefing at the Geneva Dialogue Forum, that he would give utmost importance to reconciliation and fighting corruption, and to hold the elections on time, explaining that he had not submitted his resignation from the army before nomination. Because he believes that this stage is a stage of consensus after a conflict, and not a normal political process, stressing his keenness on the civil state.

It is worth noting that the Political Dialogue Forum, held in Geneva from 1 to 5 February, will work on electing a new executive authority, consisting of a Presidential Council with a president, two deputies, and a Prime Minister.
