The UN envoy to Libya, Acting Stephanie Williams, said Thursday that the Presidential Council has established a new body that obstructs dialogue and the reforms that the UN mission seeks to implement.
“Williams” added during her briefing to the Security Council, that the political dialogue forum will be held between the 1st and 5th of next February in Switzerland; In order to hold elections for the new executive authority.
Williams stressed that human rights must be protected, and transitional justice mechanisms must be implemented in Tarhuna, in particular, after the repeated exhumations of bodies and the violent cases witnessed in the city.
“Williams” called on the Security Council, the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the international parties to respect the ceasefire agreement, noting that there is continuing progress in the economic track through the unification of the exchange rate, and other measures.
“Williams” stated that the majority of those she talked to stressed the necessity of holding the elections on the scheduled date of December 24, 2021.
It is worth noting that the UN mission in Libya announced earlier that the date for submitting applications to run for executive positions in the new government, which is to be voted on, will be decided in the coming period.
