In a letter that began with “Dear Tayyip,” Macron asks for Rapprochement with Erdogan and affirms Turkey’s important to Europe.

On Friday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that French President Emmanuel Macron sent a “very positive” message to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Cavusoglu added to reporters that the written message from Macron came two days ago, affirming that the French president stressed the importance of Turkey to Europe and expressed his desire to normalize relations with Ankara and meet Erdogan, according to the Turkish newspaper “Daily Sabah”.

Cavusoglu pointed out that the message begins with a hand written greeting by Macron in Turkish: “My dear, Tayyip ”, stressing that President Erdogan expressed his willingness to communicate with Macron in order to normalize relations, explaining that the conversation is first by phone and video calls.

Cavusoglu stressed that the road map coordinated between him and his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian includes four points, namely, bilateral consultations, combating terrorism, regional issues, including Syria and Libya, in addition to cooperation in the field of education.

It is worth noting that relations between the two countries have deteriorated after President Erdogan asked his country’s citizens to boycott French products against the backdrop of a French newspaper publishing offensive cartoons about the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
