The American “Foreign Policy” website said that the UAE provided funding for the “Wagner” operations and that the Americans know that the costs of the “Wagner” mission were paid from Abu Dhabi.
The site stated – on its official website – Monday, that last January, there was a significant increase in Russian and Emirati cargo planes loaded with weapons and ammunition heading to the eastern region and western Egypt, pointing out that simultaneously with increasing Russian presence in Libya, the UAE withdrew its equipment from Al-Khadim Air Base and allowed Russian forces to take control of it.
On the same site, Douglas Wise, deputy director of the Defense Intelligence Agency in the years 2014 to 2016, stated that Defense Intelligence had some information about the UAE’s support for Wagner, and that throughout 2020, experts following the conflict in Libya noticed patterns that would indicate closer ties between The UAE and Russia, he said,
The site quoted a member of the Paris-based Global Initiative to Combat Transnational Organized Crime, Jalil Harchaoui, that there are dozens of Russian fourth-generation combat aircraft operated by the “Wagner” company, deployed last May as part of Haftar’s efforts to prevent the “forces” of the Government of National Accord from advancing more .
Harchaoui explained that the move to deploy these forces angered many inside the Ministry of Defense, which made AFRICOM talk about the Russians in Libya, stressing that the United Nations team of experts revealed that the UAE had violated the embargo imposed by the international organization on arms transfers to Libya several times.
It is worth noting that the French newspaper “Le Point” said last October, that the new American priority in Libya is to end the presence of Russian “Wagner” mercenaries and to avoid establishing Russian military bases in Libya.
