Radio France Internationale said, on Saturday, that France, by welcoming Bashagha, wants to turn the page and draw lessons from the past after the defeat its former ally Haftar.
The radio added that Bashagha is a heavyweight in Tripoli, and one of the main players in the Libyan scene.
The radio stated that France, accused of supporting Haftar, wants to change the image circulating about it after it lost its influence in Libya, and is seeking to restore balance in its relations with the various parties in Libya.
And the radio added that Bashagha is supported by major countries, led by the United States, and that his name is strongly suggested to lead the new transitional period, noting that Bashagha has made several arrests in Tripoli against major illegal smugglers.
The French media reported the content of Bashagha’s meetings with the ministers of interior, foreign affairs and defense, which discussed common security issues such as terrorism and cross-border crime, Mediterranean security, smuggling and people trafficking, and illegal immigration.
It is worth noting that the Minister of Interior, Fathi Bashagha, held meetings yesterday with the ministers of interior and foreign affairs and the army during his official visit to France.
