The United Nations Support Mission in Libya said, on Sunday, that a number of travelers from the east to Tripoli have been subjected to arbitrary arrest by armed groups aimed at sabotaging efforts to unite Libyans following the ceasefire agreement.
The mission, according to a statement on its official website, called for the immediate release of arbitrary detainees and respect for freedom of movement for all Libyans, stressing that all citizens have the right to freedom of movement.
The mission welcomed the Civil Aviation Authority’s decision to resume flights to all airports in southern Libya, considering that this decision is a result of the confidence established by the ceasefire agreement and the follow-up talks of the Libyan Joint Military Committee in Ghadames.
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Accord has condemned the arrest of citizens from the eastern region when they disembark at Maitiqa airport, stressing that this irresponsible act harm the interest of the country and undermines the course of the current negotiations, noting that an investigation has been opened into the incident.
