The European Union expresses its hope that the “5 + 5” committee meetings will end in a comprehensive ceasefire.

On Thursday, the European Union expressed its hope that the “5 + 5” Libyan Joint Military Committee meetings, currently held in Geneva, Switzerland, would yield results that would lead to the transformation of the temporary truce into a comprehensive and sustainable ceasefire.

The spokesman for the High Representative for Security and Foreign Policy, Josef Borrell, Peter Stano, described the committee’s meetings as “very encouraging”, stressing the need to wait for what these meetings will lead to, in order to be able to study the subsequent steps that the Union will take in its endeavor to support the settlement of the Libyan crisis.

Stano reminded of the European conditions required of the Libyans in order to obtain support from the Union and its capitals, the most important of which are reaching a permanent ceasefire or at least agreeing on it, resuming pumping oil, and returning to political dialogue, according to the Italian news agency AKI.

It is worth noting that the High Representative for Security and Foreign Policy Josef Borrell previously indicated the possibility of appointing a representative of the Union in Libya.
