Al-Sarraj and Conte discuss developments in Libya and relations between the two countries.

The President of the Presidential Council, Fayiz Al-Sarraj, and Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte discussed the latest developments in Libya and the bilateral relations between the two countries.

During their meeting in the Italian capital, Rome, on Thursday, Al-Sarraj and Conte renewed their assertion that the political solution to the Libyan crisis would be in accordance with the outcomes of the Berlin Conference, which the Security Council adopted through its Resolution 2510, and through three tracks “security, economic and political.”

On the bilateral level, a number of joint cooperation files were discussed, which include the fields of security and defense, through study and training programs in Italian military colleges and academies, and the field of economics, and the follow-up of measures taken for the return of Italian companies to resume their activities in Libya.

The meeting also discussed the implementation programs of a number of joint projects agreed upon and related to combating illegal immigration, human trafficking, rescue operations, and Italy’s contribution to spatial development.

It is worth noting that Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha discussed Wednesday in Rome with Italian Foreign Minister de Maio the prospects for joint cooperation between the two countries in many areas, especially security.
