The UN mission: The resumption of the comprehensive Libyan talks early next November, and we stipulated that the invitees would not assume any positions.

The head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Stephanie Williams, announced the resumption of the comprehensive “Libyan-Libyan” talks in Tunis early next November, based on Security Council Resolution No. 2510.

The mission said – in a statement – Saturday, that the talks are generally aimed at achieving a unified vision about the governance framework and arrangements, which will lead to the holding of national elections in the shortest possible time frame.

The mission stated that the mechanism for selecting participants in the forum will be from the various main components of the Libyan people, based on the principles of inclusiveness and geographical, Arab, political, tribal and equitable social representation, with a firm commitment to the meaningful participation of Libyan women and youth.

The mission indicated that the decision to hold the forum came after weeks of intensive discussions with the main Libyan and international parties, based on the progress made and the “consensus views” that resulted from the recent consultations between the Libyans, including the recommendations of “Montreux” and the understandings reached in “Abozniqa and Cairo” .

The mission stipulated that the participating invitees refrain from holding any political or sovereign positions in any new arrangement for the executive authority.

The mission added that it will facilitate direct talks between the “5 + 5” joint military committee in Geneva on October 19 in Switzerland, and it will focus on previous deliberations and recommendations that were included in the “Hurghada” meeting at the end of last September.

The mission confirmed that it would work to facilitate consultations between the delegations of the House of Representatives in Tobruk and the Supreme Council of State, on the constitutional issues in Cairo between “11 and 13” of October, hosted by the Egyptian government, the two delegations will discuss the legal and constitutional options that can be proposed in the dialogue.
