The “Guardian” newspaper revealed, Wednesday, in a report that the threat of demolishing homes in Egypt was behind a wave of protests among the poor Egyptians.
The newspaper added that the Egyptian police responded to the protests by firing bird shots, tear gas grenades, and in some cases live bullets, according to the “Al-Quds Al-Arabi” website.
The newspaper believed that the police crackdown and the response to austerity policies formed the basis for the recent demonstrations at a time when the Egyptian per capita income decreased and many lost their jobs due to the Corona virus, as it said.
According to accounts from the Egyptians, they say that they cannot pay the fines at a time when the government threatens to demolish the homes of those who cannot pay the fine.
In the same context, the Arabic Network for Human Rights and Information indicated that 600 people were arrested and one person was killed on September 25 and another a week before.
