Foreign Minister Mohamed Sayala said that Libya will communicate with Greece and Malta to negotiate the demarcation of the maritime borders in a way that does not harm the country’s interests.
Sayala added, during his meeting with the head of the National Oil Corporation, Mustafa Sanallah, that the ministry will discuss the demarcation of the maritime borders and reach final solutions, provided that the negotiations are transparent and realistic.
In the same context, Sanallah stated that the Corporation will demand the oil companies operating in these marine border areas between Libya, Malta and Greece to suspend their exploration activities as it is a subject of ongoing dispute.
Sanallah indicated that the suspension of these activities should continue until a legal settlement is reached that serves the interests of all parties concerned, and in a way that does not overstep the rights and sovereignty of the Libyan state.
It is worth noting that the Accord Government signed a security cooperation agreement with Turkey in November last year and the demarcation of the maritime borders.
