Libya’s representative to the United Nations, Al-Taher Al-Sunni, said Thursday that Libyans are tired of the transitional stages and are seeking solutions that lead to a permanent constitution and elections.
During his talks with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, on the sidelines of the General Assembly sessions in its 75th session, Al-Sunni stressed the importance of launching a comprehensive political dialogue without delay, with the participation and representation of the active forces and from all movements and affiliations, to reach a national consensus and end the division and conflict that has lasted, for years.
For his part, “Guterres” expressed his direct interest in supporting the political process and the stability of Libya, stressing his rapid efforts to name a UN envoy to Libya and a coordinator for the UN mission, and to find consensus, in particular, from the members of the Security Council.
Guterres praised the announcement by the Government of National Accord of a ceasefire, which would support the dialogue led by the UN mission in its various tracks, stressing the need for all parties to respect this process.
Last week, the head of the Supreme Council of State, Khaled Al-Mishri, called for the necessity to represent the constituent body to draft the constitution in any dialogue that discusses the constitutional process in a way that ensures the acceleration of ending the transitional stages and preparing for the referendum on the draft constitution and holding elections.
