Al-Sunni: We support the demands of the demonstrators to fight corruption and denounce any attempts to suppress them.

The representative of Libya to the United Nations, Al-Taher Al-Sunni, denounced any attempts to suppress the demonstrations that took place in several Libyan cities to demand the fight against corruption and the corrupt, despite attempts to distort them.

In his speech, Wednesday, at the Security Council session on Libya, Al-Sunni stressed the citizens’ right to peaceful expression guaranteed by law and the just demands of the demonstrators.

Al-Sunni explained that there are ongoing investigations into reports of some abuses in the demonstrations, stressing at the same time that the state will not allow the exploitation of some individuals and groups to penetrate the demonstrations and demands and rights and jump over them in order to create chaos and distort the civilized appearance of the civil state that we aspire to , according to him.

Al-Sunni added that corruption exists in most parts of the country and over the years it has caused a deterioration in the citizen’s economic and service situation, indicating that they will not defend the corrupt, and the monitoring institutions and their agencies are fully empowered to play their role in detecting and holding the corrupt accountable.

It is worth noting that several Libyan cities have witnessed demonstrations calling for fighting corruption and denouncing the deterioration of the living situation and finding solutions to the crisis of electricity and water cuts and the scarcity of cash in the banks.
