As soon as the militias of Haftar were defeated from the western region, and their entire territory, cities, villages and bases were liberated from their control that lasted for more than fourteen consecutive months, a number of Arab and Western countries supporting him with all kinds of advanced weapons.
As soon as the supportive states and others made sure of the defeat of the Haftar militias, along with the Russian mercenaries, and witnessed their fleeing from south Tripoli, the positions of a number of them changed towards calling for dialogue and peace, and concluding agreements with the government of reconciliation.
Where a number of countries began public contacts with the government of reconciliation and the visits of their officials to the capital, Tripoli, without paying attention to Haftar and his headquarters in the area of Al-Rajma, a number of which were visiting after each visit to Tripoli.
The visits were repeated this month and so were the attitudess also. We find the Emirati Minister of Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash, who has avoided Haftar in unprecedented statements about the situation in Libya, in which he criticized Haftar, in which he said, “Some of our friends have taken individual and unilateral decisions, and we have seen this with Haftar in Libya … ”, which was considered to reflect a change in the UAE’s policy towards Haftar.
Also, the initiative announced by Egyptian President Abdelfattah Al Sisi had an echo other than acceptance and welcome, as countries rejected it and overlooked it, and among the most important of these positions was the American position, which was expressed by the American Secretary of State for Middle East Affairs, David Schenker, who said that his country sees some useful items in the Egyptian initiative On Libya , but we believe that the UN-led operation and the Berlin process are the most constructive frameworks for progress toward a ceasefire.
And in a precedent of the clear change of the Italian position, the statements of the Italian Ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Puccino, in which he said that Haftar forces acted in the same way as ISIS after planting mines in civilian homes and the mass graves left behind in the city of Tarhuna.
Recently, AFRICOM, accompanied by the ambassador in Libya, Richard Norland, visited Zuwara; To meet with the President of the Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sarraj, in the presence of a number of Libyan military commanders, in a clear indication of strong and clear American support for the GNA in the field of security and counter-terrorism, especially since the American delegation ignored Haftar and did not visit him as promoted by the Al-Karama Media.
Also, the visit of the Maltese Prime Minister, “Robert Abella” to Tripoli and the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Libya in the field of combating illegal immigration, in which Al-Sarraj and Abella agreed to expedite the steps to activate cooperation agreements in the political, economic and security fields, in a high disregard for Haftar and the government of Al-Thani affiliated to him.
The most recent of these positions was the visit made by Italian Foreign Minister Luigi de Mayo to Tripoli today, Wednesday, during which he met the President of the Presidential Council, the Minister of Interior Fathi Bashagha, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Siala, in which de Mayo confirmed the rejection of negative external interventions in the Libyan issue.
