Member of the Supreme Council of State Adel Karmous said on Monday that any failure by the competent authorities to arrest the perpetrators of heinous crimes in the city of Tarhuna is a betrayal of the homeland and the blood of innocent martyrs of civilians.
In a statement to Arraed, Karmous stated that the issuance of arrest warrants by the Office of the Public Prosecutor and the Military Prosecutor are evidence of a strong impact in condemning the accused internationally and prosecuting them internationally as they are official bodies.
Karmus stressed that the responsibility now lies with the Judicial Center in determining who is responsible for the mass graves discovered through the causes and time of death, noting that these crimes are criminalized by domestic and international law and are considered crimes against humanity.
It is worth noting that the Public Prosecutor’s Office issued a statement on Sunday regarding its investigations into crimes committed by armed groups, which controlled Tarhuna and its environs, including what are known as “Alkanyat.”
