The American newspaper “Bloomberg” said that a French naval frigate intercepted on May 22 this year a tanker on its way to load oil products from an eastern Libyan port.
The newspaper added Thursday that the intercepted tanker was heading to the port of Tobruk as part of a deal to sell refined products to a company in the UAE.
The newspaper pointed out that the French frigate, which was on the mission of “IRINI”, prevented the tanker from reaching its destination, and left it hovering at sea, noting that the tanker was unable to continue its journey , but it is still present in the region.
It is worth noting that the European Union launched a maritime operation in the Mediterranean, called “IRINI” aimed at activating the arms embargo to Libya and stopping illegal oil sales, which the National Accord government objected to because it monitors maritime borders and neglects land borders and airspace.
